I have some new bar-b-q for you to chew!

Lousiana native Scott Serpas made his name here in the ATL with Serpas True Food, the almost decade old restaurant in the Old Fourth Ward Park that earned a spot as one of the 10 “Best New Restaurants in America” in 2009 by GQ magazine.  It’s been a Southern/Louisiana cooking fixture in that neighborhood before the Beltline had exploded the Old Fourth Ward had million-dollar homes.

Now Serpas brings us the new Dixie Q in Brookhaven a simple barbecue joint which focuses on the meats and sides and where the Serpas recommends coming early because “We smoke our meats daily and, ‘when she’s gone, she’s gone until tomorrow!’”

Pig out on Serpas’ rich-flavored pulled pork, sliced or chopped brisket, sliced turkey, and smoked salmon coleslaw.  His Louisiana influence can be found in some of the sides including Camelia brand red beans and rice (the best I have had in Atlanta) as well as Cajun coleslaw and a decadent and zesty mac-n-cheese.  For the Brookhaven soccer moms there are BBQ Bowls that change daily and can be topped with any smoked meat on the menu such as the Vegetable Quinoa Bowl with goat cheese, dried cranberries, toasted pepitas and sherry honey vinaigrette and the Campfire Caesar Bowl with chopped romaine, cherry tomatoes, spicy smoky dressing, Grana Padano cheese and chili croutons.

You can also get your drink on with Dixie Q’s compact offerings of cocktails with as well as local craft beers and wines.

For sure add this to your BBQ trail list as it’s beginning to really show up on the “best-of” lists for “cue” in the ATL.  It’s definitely on mine!
