Set among a forest of glass and steel skyscrapers in Buckhead near Phipps Plaza, the all-new Mission + Market is a stellar effort from chef Ian Winslade, the veteran chef from the Atlanta scene, most recently Murphy’s in the Virginia Highlands.  The space is like a breath of air with floor to ceiling windows, mid-century modern accents and a vast patio that’s perfect for al fresco dining.

Cuisine-wise Winslade looks to the west coast for inspiration with dishes that are bold and beautifully plated.   Small plates include scallop ceviche, grilled Spanish octopus and an American red snapper crudo with a yuzu emulsion.  Entrees include a flavorfully explosive Loch Duart salmon, seared black sea bass and something they call the “Impossible Burger” served with mashed avocado, asiago cheese andpickled red onion.   Winslade also handmakes pasta and fires up a brick oven for thin crust pizzas like the apricot and charred eggplant.  For dessert, I had a spiced rum cake with a marble gelato that was akin to a religious experience.  This was a top-tier meal from stem to stern.

The experience of Mission + Market defines freshness on the scene.  From the dramatic entrance among the skyscrapers to the energy of the dining room to the confidence and flawless execution of the dishes, it has catapulted to one of my favorites in Buckhead and in the city entirely.  It’s a reminder of the meteoric growth of the Atlanta and also a feeling that it’s all just beginning and that our little city is on the verge of something spectacular on the world stage.

And in addition to all this, coming very soon the Buckhead outpost of Little Alley Steak will open in the building next door in what will surely make this Buckhead hub the "it" spot for the near future so make your plans to get over there!
